FixMyStreet: Fact vs Fiction
Hi everyone, it’s us again! We know you’ve heard us say it 100 times, and here it comes again... if you spot a problem on the roads, cycleways or footpaths, you can report this online using FixMyStreet.
With some of our residents seasoned pros at reporting issues online (thank you!), we also know there’s a lot of misconceptions about FixMyStreet so we’re taking a look at what you think you know about FixMyStreet (and what’s actually true!)
What FixMyStreet is
FixMyStreet gives you the power to report what needs attention in your community and supports the proactive inspections carried out by our Area Inspectors and Safety Inspectors. From reporting potholes and other defects in the road, problems with trees, streetlights, flytipping, flooding, street signs and more – FixMyStreet is a quick and easy way to share information with us.
Fact vs Fiction
FICTION – The volume of reports has no impact on the response time for either inspection or repair. When you submit a report, the platform’s mapping system automatically checks for identical pins and descriptions to close duplications.
FICTION – Our Area Inspectors and Safety Inspectors regularly carry out local inspection regimes in line with the type of road, traffic levels and location. Our own teams work in identifying potholes and other road defects is further supported by resident reports on FixMyStreet.
FICTION - Users can start their reports on FixMyStreet by uploading a photo of the issue taken on a smartphone. With FixMyStreet’s new geo-tagging functionality, the photo’s embedded EXIF data (GPS and timestamps) is used to plot the location improving the accuracy of the report and saving you time!
FICTION – FixMyStreet gives communities the ability to report more than just potholes (although these tend to be our most popular reports!). It is primarily for reporting things which are broken, damaged or dumped, and need fixing or clearing, such as: Abandoned vehicles, Flooding, Flytipping or litter, Grit bins, Potholes, Street cleaning, such as broken glass in a cycle lane, Street signs and traffic lights and Unlit lampposts.
What happens after a report is made on FixMyStreet
All defects are inspected and assessed to determine whether a repair is required, and if so, what kind of repair it might need. When the issue or defect has been assessed we update the online report and send you an email.
