What is an HMO
A house in multiple occupation (HMO) is a building or part of a building, such as a flat, which is occupied as living accommodation by more than 2 people who:
- are not members of the same household
- share one or more basic amenity, such as a bathroom, toilet or cooking facilities
A household is:
- a single person
- a co-habiting couple
- people who are members of the same family
What you can report
You can report a house in multiple occupation (HMO) to us if you think it:
- is being operated as an HMO without a licence, you can check if they have a licence on our HMO register
- does not have the correct fire safety regulations in place
- does not have the correct facilities for an HMO
- is overcrowded
- is not being managed properly
- is in poor condition
