Wendover Community Library art commission
With the completion of the refurbishment works at Wendover Community Library and its reopening on 25 March 2025, the artworks created as part of the art commission for the library improvement project are now on display.
The commissioned artist, Kremena Dimitrova, together with residents of Wendover and surrounding areas, created unique art installations for the renovated library.
Kremena Dimitrova is a London based illustrator-as-historian, storyteller and lecturer in visual culture and history. She specialises in children's illustration, comics, murals, public art installations, mapmaking/trails, and visual storytelling in the museum and heritage sectors.
Commission aim
An essential aspect of the transformation project is the art commission's goal to:
- create an installation that complements the architecture of the library building
- develop a concept that is informed by an aspect of Wendover’s identity or heritage
- include an element of local community, staff or volunteer engagement
- work with a colour scheme that is complementary to the dementia-friendly palette chosen for the library
These interactive artworks were crafted based on the insights and narratives shared by Wendover's residents and pupils from local schools.
