Changes to private renters rights (Renters' Rights Act 2025)

Advice for landlords

These changes affect how you manage tenancies and your responsibilities as a landlord.

What you must do

You must give your tenants the Government information sheet by 31 May 2026.

This explains how the new law affects their tenancy.

Ensure all your tenants have a written tenancy agreement.

Our responsibilities

We're responsible for enforcing the law and ensuring landlords meet their legal duties. This includes:

  • checking compliance with landlord legislation
  • taking action where legal requirements are not met
  • ensuring privately rented homes meet required standards
