Transport modelling
Our transport model
We have developed the Buckinghamshire Strategic Transport Model 2 (BSTM2) to inform planning applications and support transport assessments.
How we built the model
BSTM2 was built to represent typical weekday ‘peak’ traffic flow, from 8am to 9am and 5pm to 6pm as well as the interpeak period, from 10am to 4 pm.
BSTM2 includes several other improvements over the previous model, making the model more accurate.
How the model is used
BSTM2 is a strategic, whole county scale model. This means that it is used to:
- analyse major and minor schemes
- illustrate wider changes in flow or delay
- export into GIS and other spatial systems
- show routing information
We can input a specific scheme or development into the model which will show how it will affect:
- the flow of traffic
- the speed of the traffic
- congestion on the road network
Developers can apply to use our transport model to help make decisions about their own developments, or for economic or environmental assessment.
