Transport modelling

Transport modelling is a way of predicting what will happen if we make efficient and effective changes to the road or transport network in the county.

For example, if we build a new:

• bypass
• housing estate
• employment site

Transport models follow the government's Transport analysis guidance (TAG).

A transport model helps with how new developments and highways improvements are reviewed through the analysis of:

• traffic flows on roads
• journey time to determine the impacts of congestion
• journey routing
• trips for a given year up to the models forecast year or specific scenario
• mode, destination and time of day of travel

We established this process to make sure that the development and appraisal of transport assessments are carried out in an efficient and effective manner.
