Pay a parking fine (PCN)

Parking fines, known as penalty charge notices (PCNs), are charged at 2 rates depending on the type of contravention:

• £70 higher charge
• £50 lower charge

If you pay a parking fine within 14 days of the date it was given to you, you will get a 50% discount.

To pay a parking fine you'll need:

• your vehicle registration number (also known as a number plate, licence number or licence plate)
• the 10 character reference number printed on your PCN
• a debit or credit card to make the payment (payments cannot be made using an American Express card)

We advise waiting 24 hours after receiving your PCN before making a payment. This allows time for the notice to become available on our payment system.

If you lose your PCN fine reference number, contact the parking team and tell us:

• your vehicle registration number (also known as a number plate, licence number or licence plate)
• the date the PCN was issued
• details on where you were parked when the PCN was issued

Parking fines are charged at different rates depending on the type of parking contravention.

• £70 higher charge: for parking where parking is not permitted, such as on double yellow lines, at a bus stop, in a residents' bay without a permit or in a disabled bay without displaying a valid Blue Badge
• £50 lower charge: for parking where parking is permitted but you do not follow the conditions, such as staying longer than allowed, not displaying a valid ticket or parking outside a marked bay

New PCNs can take up to 24 hours to appear on the payment system.

If you still receive an error message after 24 hours, contact [email protected] and include your PCN number (starting AA) and details of the problem.

If you're eligible for a discount, you'll still be able to pay the reduced amount within 14 days of receiving the notice.

If you feel there is a good reason why you should not pay it, you can appeal a parking fine.

When processing a PCN, we may request details about the vehicle owner from the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA).
