Grammar schools and Secondary Transfer Testing (11+)

The Secondary Transfer Test

The Secondary Transfer Test measures verbal, non-verbal and mathematical skills.

Children sit two test papers, each about 60 minutes long, with a break between.

There is also a shorter practice test, usually taken two days before the main test, to help children learn what to expect.

The Secondary Transfer Test is produced by GL Assessment.

Taking the test

If your child attends a state funded Buckinghamshire primary school or Partner school, they will sit the test at school, during the school day.

If your child attends any other school, we will invite them to sit the test at a Buckinghamshire grammar school or other central venue.

Accessing the test

If your child has special educational needs or a disability, or if their school makes special arrangements to help them access the curriculum, it may be possible for adjustments to be made to the testing conditions.

An application for adjustments should be made by a child’s headteacher.
