Grammar schools and Secondary Transfer Testing (11+)
Apply for a grammar school place
You must include your preferred Buckinghamshire grammar school (or schools) in your child’s secondary school application.
Your child’s secondary school application must be submitted to your home local authority. If you live in Buckinghamshire, apply on our secondary school application page.
If you live outside Buckinghamshire, you may include Buckinghamshire grammar schools in the application submitted to your home local authority. Do not submit your application to us if you live outside Buckinghamshire.
The national deadline to submit your child’s secondary school application is 31 October.
How are grammar school places allocated?
Qualified children can be considered for the grammar school(s) included in their secondary school application.
Qualified children are prioritised according to each school’s admission rules.
If a child has qualified, their score does not matter; a higher test score will not mean a higher priority for a Buckinghamshire grammar school place.
A Buckinghamshire grammar school place is not guaranteed to each qualified child.
Including grammar school preferences if your child did not qualify
If your child did not reach the qualifying score, and you think you will request a Selection Review and/or an Admission Appeal, you should include their preferred grammar school(s) in their secondary school application.
All grammar schools admit at least 6 unqualified children who are eligible for the Pupil Premium. You can view details in each school’s Admissions Policy.
If your child is not qualified, we recommend that you include a preferred upper school (or schools) in your child’s secondary school application in case a Selection review or Appeal is unsuccessful.
