Apply to change school during the academic year (in-year transfer)

Submit an application

Apply to move your child to another school during the academic year.

If you're moving house, you'll need to apply within 6 weeks of your move.

Before you begin

You'll need to check who you need to apply to. It will either be with us (Buckinghamshire Council) or with the school.

You can check who you need to apply to, and the number of vacancies in the school vacancy reports on our vacancies page.

We update the reports as frequently as possible, but some vacancies might be filled by the time we process your application.

You should list your true preferences (the schools you would like your child to go to) instead of choosing a school only because it has a vacancy.

Prepare evidence

You'll need to provide evidence of your move to support your application.

You must first create an online account in order to complete the application form. This will make it easier for us to keep you up to date throughout the process.

If you already have an online account, complete the form below. When completing the form, you will need to send evidence to support your application. The evidence must be in an electronic format.

If you are moving to the UK as a refugee, you may find our guidance for new refugees helpful.

If you qualify for one of the government support schemes (for example Ukraine, Afghan, Chagos Islands), you will be supported by a Refugee Welfare Officer. To access this support, either call us on 0300 131 6000 or visit one of our offices.
