Apply to move your child to another school during the academic year.
If you're moving house, you'll need to apply within 6 weeks of your move.
Before you begin
Before you submit an application, make sure you:
Prepare evidence
You'll need to provide evidence of your move to support your application.
Check what evidence you'll need to provide:
If you want to move your child and they attend:
- a Buckinghamshire school
- an independent school
- out of county school
- or educated at home
You'll need to submit a scan or photo of a utility bill dated within the last 3 months showing usage.
You must ensure that you have an electronic copy before you start the application.
You will need to apply for the place within 6 weeks of your planned move. We will accept evidence of your move to process your application but your old address will be used for allocation purposes until you have sent us evidence that you and your child are resident in your new property.
If you're moving into Buckinghamshire, depending on the type of house move, we need the following types of evidence:
Property sale
Evidence for a property sale includes:
- a solicitor's letter confirming that contracts have been exchanged or
- a copy of one of the following documents showing that you and your child are living at the new address; current Council Tax bill, driving licence, utility bill (showing usage), or doctor’s registration letter for your child
Property rental
Evidence for a property rental includes:
- a formal lease agreement, provided through an approved letting agency, confirming that your lease has started and showing that you will be living at the address for at least 6 months (page showing details of new address and last page signed by landlord and tenant) or
- a copy of one of the following documents showing that you and your child are living at the new address; current Council Tax bill, driving licence, utility bill (showing usage), or doctor's registration letter for your child
Children permanently moving from one parent or carer to live with another
Evidence for if a child is permanently moving from one parent or carer to live with another includes:
- written confirmation from both parents of the new arrangements
- a copy of the current Council Tax bill from the parent with whom the child is moving to live, with proof that Child Benefit is being paid to the parent with whom the child is going to be living with, or if Child Benefit is not received, a letter from the child’s GP confirming the address at which the child is registered
Refuge (domestic abuse)
Evidence if residing in a refuge (domestic abuse) includes written confirmation from the refuge that you are currently residing there.
If you are moving from abroad your child will need to resident of the UK before you make your application.
Moving from abroad
You'll need to provide evidence of your move to the UK, such as:
- flight details, copies for you and your child's flight details of their return
- address details
Moving back from abroad to a property you already own
If you are moving back from abroad to a property you already own, we need proof that you own the property (for example the Land Registry document).
If the property is currently being leased, we need:
- copy of the written notice you have given the tenants that you will be returning
- a copy of one of the following documents showing that you and your child are living at the new address; current Council Tax bill, driving licence, utility bill (showing usage), or doctor's registration letter for your child
Moving from abroad to live in the UK to a rental property
If you are moving from abroad to live in the UK to a rental property, we need either:
- a formal lease agreement, provided through an approved letting agency, confirming that your lease has started and showing that you will be living at the address for at least 6 months (page showing details of new address and last page signed by landlord and tenant)
- a copy of one of the following documents showing that you and your child are living at the new address; current Council Tax bill, driving licence, utility bill (showing usage), or doctor's registration letter for your child
Service families
Children of UK HM forces or other Crown Servants must be treated as meeting the residency criteria for a particular area, even if no house is currently owned in that area once proof of posting has been provided.
Provide the quarters address, or if it is not yet available, the unit postal address. It would be advisable to attach proof of posting, such as a copy of the Assignment Order, if available.
Make an application
To apply, you'll need to upload evidence to support your application. The evidence must be in an electronic format.
