Report fly-tipping

Report fly-tipped waste on public roads and footpaths.

If the waste is on private land, it must be reported to the landowner.

If you see fly-tipped waste on a public road, footpath or other public land, report it to us as soon as possible.

Before reporting, try to record as much information as you can, including:

• the location
• the type of waste
• the vehicle registration number (if you saw a vehicle involved)

Fly-tipped waste on private land is the responsibility of the landowner.

If you do not know who owns the land, contact HM Land Registry to find out.

If you own the land, you are responsible for arranging and paying for the safe removal and disposal of the waste.

Before employing a contractor, check that they are registered as a waste carrier with the Environment Agency

Fly-tipping is a criminal offence and can result in an unlimited fine or imprisonment.

If it's your waste, you're responsible for making sure it is disposed of legally.

Before allowing someone to remove your waste:

• check they are a registered waste carrier using the SCRAP code
• ask where the waste is being taken
• avoid paying in cash where possible
