Join us to celebrate 100 Years of Higginson Park this Saturday

Residents and visitors are warmly invited to join Buckinghamshire Council this Saturday (20 June) for a special community celebration marking 100 years of Higginson Park in Marlow.

Higginson Park, a much-loved green space at the heart of Marlow, has been a focal point for community life since it became public land in 1926, thanks to a remarkable local fundraising effort. Today, the park continues to bring people together to relax, celebrate and connect with nature.

To commemorate this milestone anniversary, a programme of free and accessible activities will take place throughout the afternoon, offering something for all ages and interests.

Highlights of the celebration include:

  • Heritage walks led by Marlow Museum, exploring the park’s rich history (departing at 2pm, 3pm and 4pm – free of charge, booking required)
  • Children’s activities with local author Simon Mole
  • Art in the Park, an outdoor painting session suitable for all abilities
  • A ceremonial tree planting, marking the centenary with a lasting legacy
  • A commemorative floral display in the park’s iconic flowerbeds

All activities are open to the public, with most free to attend and, other than the heritage walks, no booking is required, making it easy for everyone to come along and be part of the celebrations.

Peter Brazier, Buckinghamshire Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture and Leisure, said:

“Higginson Park has been at the heart of Marlow life for a century, providing a beautiful and welcoming space for residents and visitors alike. This special anniversary is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate its rich history and the role it continues to play in bringing people together. I would encourage everyone to come along this Saturday and enjoy what promises to be a fantastic community day.”

Buckinghamshire Council, as trustee of the Higginson Park Charity, continues to care for and maintain the park, ensuring it remains a vibrant and valued space for future generations.

The council looks forward to welcoming the community to mark this important milestone and celebrate one of Buckinghamshire’s treasured local spaces.
