Easton Street Car Park in High Wycombe to close ahead of demolition

Following the Cabinet decision on 10 March, Buckinghamshire Council has confirmed that Easton Street multistorey car park in High Wycombe will close permanently from Tuesday 5 May 2026, ahead of its planned demolition.

The 1960s car park has deteriorated significantly and reached the end of its operational life. The upper levels have already been closed due to structural concerns, and independent analysis found that continuing to operate or fully repair the structure would require around £3 million of investment, alongside ongoing financial losses.

Closing the car park ahead of demolition is the most responsible long-term option to protect public safety and deliver value for money for residents, while allowing the site to be cleared and released for future regeneration.

The council is reassuring residents, businesses and visitors that there is sufficient capacity at nearby car parks to accommodate displaced users, including Wycombe Swan Car Park and Railway Place Car Park. Clear signage will be in place to help direct drivers, with updated parking information available online.

To support accessibility and minimise disruption, a Temporary Traffic Regulation Order (TTRO) is now in place. This will provide additional Blue Badge parking spaces in nearby locations and introduce designated pick-up and drop-off points, alongside existing pay and display bays.

The Easton Street site is identified as a key location within the council’s High Wycombe Regeneration Strategy and is central to the Easton Quarter Vision. Demolishing the outdated structure will unlock a prime town centre site for future redevelopment, delivering new homes for our residents, supporting economic growth, boosting footfall and helping create a more connected and vibrant High Wycombe.

Robert Carington, Buckinghamshire Council’s Cabinet Member for Resources, said:

“This is not a decision we have taken lightly, but public safety must always come first. Continuing to operate or repair Easton Street Car Park would not represent value for money for residents. Closing it now allows us to manage risks responsibly, avoid further financial losses and unlock a key site for High Wycombe’s future regeneration.”

Demolition is expected to begin later this year. The council will continue to provide updates as plans progress.

The council operates several other car parks in High Wycombe, which remain open and available for use as normal.
