Apply for a sex establishment licence in the former Wycombe district area
Use this service to apply for a licence to run a:
- sex shop
- sex cinema
- sexual entertainment venue
A sex establishment licence costs £4,905.
Who can apply
You must be aged 18 years or older.
Applicants must be either:
- a resident in the UK for at least 6 months immediately before the application
- a company registered in either the UK or an EAA state
Who cannot apply
You cannot apply for a licence if you have:
- been disqualified from holding a licence
- been refused the grant or renewal of a licence for the premises in question within the last 12 months (unless the refusal has been reversed on appeal)
Apply for a licence
To apply, you’ll need:
- the layout plan of the premises
- a scheme showing the exterior design for consideration by the licensing authority
- a copy of the club rules

You will hear from us regarding your application within 14 days of applying. If you do not hear from us by then, you should contact the licensing team.
After you apply
If approved for a licence, you’ll need to:
- display a public notice outside the premises advertising the consultation period (see premises advert template DOCX, 28.5KB)
- arrange a newspaper advert (see our newspaper advert template DOCX, 24KB)
- comply with our sex establishment licensing policy (for the former Wycombe district area) PDF, 648KB
If your licence is refused
If you’d like to appeal a licence decision, you should contact the licensing team.
You can appeal to the Magistrates Court within 21 days of being notified of a decision, unless the licence was refused because:
- the number of sex establishments in the area exceeds the number which we consider is appropriate
- to grant a licence would be inappropriate considering the character of the area, the nature of other premises in the area, or the premises themselves
In these circumstances, there is no right of appeal.
