Introduction

Buckinghamshire Council has a legal duty to provide free transport between home and school for children who are eligible under the criteria as set in national law, which is applied in Buckinghamshire through the council's Home to School Transport Policy.

We also offer paid-for transport to other children if there are spare places on vehicles already arranged to meet the needs of the children eligible for free transport. This is known as the ‘Spare Seat Scheme'.

  • the use of the words 'student' applies to all children and young people on transport.
  • the council reserves the right to amend its school transport policies at any time following public consultation where material changes have been proposed. The latest versions are available on the website.
