Proposal for a new crematorium at the Anoopam Mission in Denham
We've received an application for an environmental permit for a crematorium in Denham.
The applicant states that the crematorium has been designed to meet the needs of the Hindu community. It would be the first purpose-built Hindu crematorium in the UK.
The applicant also states that existing crematoria can struggle to meet the needs of some faith communities because of factors including:
- availability
- capacity
- the facilities provided
The proposed building and facilities would include:
- 2 waiting rooms
- 2 private ritual rooms for pre-ceremony activities
- a large ceremony hall that could be divided into smaller spaces for smaller funerals
- a crematory hall where families could witness the start of the cremation process
- plant, staff welfare and other operational facilities
The proposed location
Aum Crematorium
Anoopam Mission Hindu Temple
The Lea, Western Avenue
Denham
Buckinghamshire
UB9 4NA
It would be built on the southern part of the site.
It would be next to the Anoopam Mission Hindu Temple. The site covers approximately 6.3 hectares and could be accessed from Denham Court Drive.
The River Misbourne runs along the eastern boundary. The site is generally flat and contains mature trees and established planting around its perimeter.
