About the ecology service
The ecology service protects the natural environment in Buckinghamshire and provides specialist advice on ecology and biodiversity matters.
Buckinghamshire has a rich and varied natural environment, including:
- chalk grassland, beech woodlands, wood-pasture and chalk rivers

- more than 100 legally protected species
- around 200 priority species for conservation
Planning and development
As the Local Planning Authority, we have responsibilities to conserve wildlife and biodiversity.
National planning policy requires developments to achieve measurable biodiversity net gain. Local planning policies and government guidance help inform planning decisions in Buckinghamshire.
