Youth Justice Service rated 'Good' following inspection
Buckinghamshire's Youth Justice Service has been rated 'Good' following a recent inspection, with inspectors highlighting the strength of its work with children, persons harmed (victims), parents and carers and partners across the county.
The Youth Justice Service is a council-led multi-agency partnership bringing together specialist teams from children’s services, education, health and policing.
The inspection found that children are genuinely at the centre of the service, recognising a strong culture of relational practice, participation and co-production that helps children engage positively to achieve better outcomes.
Inspectors praised the professionalism and commitment of staff, with children, parents and carers describing practitioners as supportive, respectful, flexible and dedicated to meeting their needs.
The report also highlighted the effectiveness of partnership working across education, health, social care and policing, enabling children and families to receive coordinated support at the right time. Inspectors noted that the service benefits from a strong and engaged management board that remains focused on securing positive outcomes for children.
The overall rating of Good reflects strong performance across work with both children and victims (persons harmed), recognising the service's continued commitment to helping children move away from offending, repair harm and build brighter futures.

While celebrating the positive findings, the Youth Justice Service remains focused on continuous improvement. Work is already underway to build on existing strengths by making approaches to safety and support for victims more consistent across all areas of practice, supported by strengthened oversight and improved use of performance data.
The inspection findings provide a strong foundation for the service as it continues to develop and improve outcomes for children, victims and communities across Buckinghamshire.
