New opportunities for Stoke Mandeville community

Organisations are being invited to put forward proposals for the future use of part of a vacant council-owned site in Stoke Mandeville, as work continues to consider opportunities for community facilities on the site.

Any group involved in community work is being invited to put forward ideas for the former Buckinghamshire County Council Sports and Social Club site on Lower Road, Stoke Mandeville. Buckinghamshire Council’s Cabinet has agreed that part of the site will be marketed for up to 12 months, so organisations can propose sustainable uses that respond to local needs and deliver lasting benefits for residents.

There is also potential for the local school to expand onto another part of the land, creating further opportunities to support local children and families. The former Sports and Social Club closed in 2017, and the site has remained vacant since then. The council is now keen to see this important local asset brought back into productive use.

Robert Carington, Buckinghamshire Council’s Cabinet Member for Resources, said:

“This is a really positive opportunity to give part of this site a new lease of life.

“We want to hear from organisations with exciting, sustainable and viable ideas for how the site could be used to meet local needs and make a real difference for residents.

“Alongside this, the potential planned expansion of the local school offers another important opportunity to support children and families. Together, these possibilities give us a real chance to make the most of this site for the community and for future generations.”
