Future changes approved for waste and street scene services in Buckinghamshire
Buckinghamshire Council has approved the outsourcing of future waste collection and street scene services in north and south Buckinghamshire – a decision which will see a single contract providing these services for the whole county from 2029/30.
At Cabinet today (Tuesday 21 April), approval was granted to transition the council’s waste and street scene services to a single fully outsourced service across the county. Delivered by one external provider, working closely with the Council, this includes services such as:
- Collections of all household waste and recycling streams (including food and garden waste)
- Bulky and clinical waste collections
- Street cleansing including litter picking
- Commercial waste services/collections
Councillor Ade Osibogun, Cabinet Member for Environment, Climate Change and Waste, said:
“The Council is committed to continuously improving services for the residents of Buckinghamshire, ensuring they remain financially sustainable and provide the best possible value for money. The decision followed a detailed review of all available options for this critical service for residents – including careful consideration of available resources, efficiency of service, best interest of residents and the potential impact for the council, employees and contractors.”
While the decision has been made today, any changes are several years away.
Ade continued: “With the decision made, next steps will include preparing for a competitive procurement process. Due to the complexities of procuring this significant service for Buckinghamshire, along with the differing current arrangements in the north and south, the new contract is not expected to come into effect until 2029/2030.
