Get library items if you cannot visit a library

If you cannot visit a library because of a disability, health condition or mobility issue, there are 2 ways to get library items.

The Library Buddy Service allows a friend or family member to borrow and return library items using your library account.

A Library Buddy can:

• borrow books, audiobooks and other library items for you
• return items for you
• bring items to your home

With a Library Buddy card:

• books and audiobooks can be borrowed for 31 days
• there are no overdue charges for books and audiobooks
• there are no reservation charges for books and audiobooks

Standard loan periods and charges apply to other library items.

Ask your friend or family member to visit a library. Library staff will help them join the service.

Find your local library.

We'll send you a letter confirming the person you've chosen.

Sign and return the enclosed form using the envelope provided. We'll then update both library accounts so your Library Buddy can start borrowing items for you.

The Home Library Service is free for people who cannot visit a library and do not have someone who can collect items for them.

A volunteer will deliver books and other library items to your home once a month at an agreed time. All volunteers carry identification.

We'll contact you within 10 days to assess your eligibility and arrange a home visit.

If you're eligible, we'll match you with a volunteer and arrange for deliveries to begin.
