Homeless and temporary accommodation

Making a decision on your homeless application

Once a decision has been made on your application you will be notified if the Council has a duty to assist you or not in providing you with settled accommodation. This decision includes many factors and may have two outcomes:

  • if the council does not have a duty to assist you then you will be given 28 days’ notice to leave the temporary accommodation and you will have to make your own housing arrangements. We may be able to provide assistance to you if you locate an affordable and suitable property in the private rented market.
  • if the Council does have a duty to assist, the council will continue to provide temporary accommodation until either you locate a private rented home that is suitable and affordable to you, or:
    • the council makes a single offer of private rented accommodation to you
    • the council makes a single offer of social housing to you via Bucks Home Choice
