Homeless and temporary accommodation

Paying for the accommodation

You may be required to contribute to your accommodation costs, depending on your income. If this is the case we will discuss this with you and advise you of how to pay.

The council will assist in making an initial housing benefit claim for you, it is your responsibility to ensure that you complete this when you are contacted by the housing benefit team at the council. You may be required to pay the difference between the amount of Housing Benefit you are entitled to and the nightly charge, depending on your income.

There may also be a service charge which is not covered by housing benefit, you will be required to pay this charge weekly.

If you are in financial difficulty, you must contact your Housing Advisor urgently, failure to pay either your rent or service charge could result in the council ending their duty to provide accommodation to you and end your placement. You would then have to find your own accommodation.
