Technology that can help you live independently

Telecare is simple technology to help you remain living independently at home for longer. You can use telecare to remind you of things you need to do, such as take your medication. Or a telecare system can automatically send an alert via your phone line to staff at a response centre or a carer if you need help, such as if you’ve fallen.

The simplest form of Telecare is a pendant alarm which can be pressed to call for help. There are GPS versions for those at risk in the community.

We also offer some equipment that is not linked to a call centre. This is a simple standalone solution which can be of enormous help to vulnerable people and their carer’s.

Equipment

Following an assessment, a package may include a carer alarm, pendant alarm, GPS locators or other sensors.

Assessment process

Once a referral form is received, we will call the person referred (or the identified contact) to confirm the details on the referral within 3 working days.

We will then proceed with a telephone assessment or schedule an assessment in your home with one of our assessors/installers.

From a telephone assessment we will install the agreed equipment within 5 working days, from an assessment in your home we will install the equipment the same day (this will be within 10 days of receipt of the referral).

The assessment is a conversation around any areas of difficulty or concern within your daily life that technology may be able to assist with. It can take from 20 minutes to an hour.

Paying for equipment or services

There is no charge for the assessment, installation or for the equipment itself. The equipment is on long term loan to our clients that we will collect when it is no longer required.

There may, however, be a charge for the connection to the monitoring service which is there for you 24/7. For landline-based services this cost is currently £4.90 per week. For a SIM card cased service the cost is £8.61 per week.

You will be financially assessed by Buckinghamshire Council to ascertain if you need to pay or not. The savings threshold is currently £23.5K.

If you have over this then you will certainly be asked to pay for the service.
