Support with mobility and carrying out daily tasks

If you, or the person you are caring for, is having difficulty carrying out day to day activities, an Occupational Therapist or Occupational Therapy Assistant may be able to help.

Occupational therapists see beyond diagnoses and limitations to hopes and aspirations. They look at relationships between the activities you do every day, your occupations, alongside the challenges you face and your environment.

The Community Occupational Therapy Service in Buckinghamshire takes a client centred approach to support residents to do the things they want and need to do. They help people to live independently and well within their homes for as long as possible.

This can be achieved through many ways, for example:

  • finding a new way of doing a task such as preparing a meal or drink, washing, dressing, and getting in and around the home
  • recommending or loaning equipment
  • working with your carer to offer them advice in the best way to support you
  • providing minor adaptations, such as grab rails
  • arranging major adaptations, such as ramps or stairlifts
  • providing information or advice, including signposting to other appropriate services

If you would like to know more about how an Occupational Therapist could support you, or the person you are caring for living with Dementia, then contact the Occupational Therapy Team for more information or complete a self-referral to arrange for an assessment.
