Our priorities for 2026 to 2027
The following are priorities for the whole Community Board area:
Empowering young people
Priority: Following Community Conversations, we are committed to supporting young people by showcasing opportunities as they move toward adulthood.
We will do this by exploring hosting a Youth Expo event in each Ward aimed at providing life-skills guidance and employment readiness support.
Using a local venue, we will bring together:
- young people
- schools
- clubs
- groups
- organisations
- volunteering opportunities
- council/statutory services
- youth support services
- advisory bodies
- health services
Supporting and empowering communities
Priority: Community Conversations in all Wards identified a need to provide free and accessible reading materials, enabling residents to access these at any time.
We will do this by improving access to books for everyone, creating a localised sense of pride and community resilience.
View our priorities for each of the areas:
Strengthening family support
Priority: Community conversation with Ward Members identified a need for a community based support hub in Amersham for individuals living with life-limiting illness and those who are close to them.
We will do this by working with a delivery partner to provide:
- structured wellbeing activities
- emotional support
- social connection
- accessible information
Supporting older people
Priority: Community Conversations highlighted the concerns of older residents about loneliness, lack of easily accessible information and limited opportunities for them to stay connected, active and well-informed about local support.
We will do this by hosting an accessible event bringing together:
- older residents
- council services
- external agencies
- voluntary sector organisations
The event will offer connection, conversation and practical support, as well as a nutritious lunch, in a safe and sociable environment where they can obtain information, learn about local opportunities, discover age-appropriate exercise and nutrition.
Championing youth voice
Priority: Ward Community Conversations identified a need for targeted youth provision which offers consistent, trusted support that promotes wellbeing, positive choices and community connection.
We will do this by working with a delivery partner to deliver targeted youth provision through outreach, mentoring and safe spaces.
Celebrating community and culture
Priority: Community conversations identified a need for residents to learn about local services and how to access support, to promote wellbeing and community connection.
We will do this by hosting a Health in the High Street and Community Activity Day event to provide free and accessible health information from trusted professionals, information from local charities and council services.
Strengthening community engagement
Priority: In response to our Community Conversations, we will prioritise strengthening community engagement to foster local connections and promote inclusivity.
We will do this by exploring the use of existing spaces such as Park Parade (Cosy Corner) to host of an outdoor market and craft fayre which enables residents, businesses and local groups to connect.
Empowering communities
Priority: Ward Community Conversations identified that Missenden communities need support to feel empowered to foster local leadership, collaboration and shared ownership of community development.
We will do this by:
- working with a delivery partner to create a project which focusses on physical activity, mental health, independence and healthy lifestyles
- supporting the Prestwood Community Association to conduct a community survey - the outputs of this will provide community insight, help shape locally driven improvements and support evidence based decisions
- working with a local delivery partner to enhance the visual appeal of Chequers Parade, refreshing and re-planting the established planters with vibrant, seasonal and low maintenance plants
- working with residents to gauge their interest in the formation of a new residents’ association in South Heath
