Order a birth, death or marriage certificate
Order an official copy of a birth, death, marriage or civil partnership certificate. These certificates can be used for most official and legal purposes.
If you're researching your family history, you can order a historical certificate.
Order online
To order a birth certificate, you'll need to provide:
- full name
- date of birth
- place of birth
- parents' names, including mother's previous name if applicable
To order a death certificate, you'll need to provide:
- full name
- date of birth
- address
- occupation
- date of death
- place of death
- name of husband, if applying for a certificate for a woman who was married
To order a marriage or civil partnership certificate, you'll need to provide:
- parties' full names
- date of ceremony
- where the ceremony took place
- any surname used before (marriages only)
- address or addresses at the time of the ceremony (civil partnerships only)

Priority orders placed before 2pm are dispatched the next working day.
Working days are Monday to Friday, excluding bank and public holidays.
The priority service is not available for marriage or civil partnership certificates if the ceremony took place within the last 21 days.
Delivery
All certificates are sent by Royal Mail.

Order by post
Write to your local register office and include:
- the type of certificate you need
- a cheque payable to Buckinghamshire Council
- your contact telephone number
- the information needed to identify the record
