Request support from the Helping Hand Team
Our Helping Hand team is available to help individuals or families in need, those on low incomes and those who are experiencing a financial emergency or crisis.
Let us know if:
- you are struggling to afford food
- you cannot keep on top of your bills
- you are in debt
- you are struggling to pay for essential goods in your home
Whether you get in contact by phone or our online form, we will ask a few questions about your situation so we can offer the best support or advice.
We may also ask to see proof of any income and/or any benefits you receive. We can help you to show this information to us if you need it.

Currently we're prioritising urgent requests for emergency food and household fuel and aim to respond within 3 working days. For other requests this will take longer.

Our phone lines are open:
- Monday to Thursday (9am to 5:30pm)
- Friday (9am to 5pm)
We are closed on bank holidays.
If you're in immediate need and your request cannot wait until the next working day call the Emergency Social Work Team on 0800 999 7677.
They will ask you for information to assess the urgency of your needs and whether they can help.
If you are waiting for a response from the Helping Hand team and your situation has not changed or become more urgent, they may not be able to action your request.
