Priorities for Climate Change and Environment services

Net carbon zero by 2050

Priority: Progressing our ambition to be net carbon zero by 2050 (and potentially earlier) by:

  • delivering the key actions set out in our Climate Change & Air Quality Strategy
  • moving towards electric vehicles for council use
  • seeking opportunities to generate solar energy by putting photovoltaic electric generation on Council land
  • communicating to the public the ambition and action of the Council on climate change
  • significantly progressing our ambition to plant over 500,000 trees, and creating a new woodland in North Buckinghamshire

Outcome: To address climate change, improve our environment and create economic opportunities for clean growth.

Flood prevention

Priority: Continuing to take action on flood prevention through delivery of key capital schemes and the progressing the GRACE programme.

Outcome: Reduce the risk from flooding to key areas in Buckinghamshire, innovate and learn lessons from previous flooding events to further reduce this risk.

Produce a Tree Strategy

Priority: Produce a Tree Strategy for Buckinghamshire.

Outcome: Inform future decisions about trees within Buckinghamshire.

Increase electric vehicle charging points

Priority: Doubling the number of publicly available electric vehicle (EV) charging points across Buckinghamshire by end of 2023/24, and adoption of an EV Charging Action Plan.

Outcome: To improve air quality and people's health, by reducing emissions and encouraging green transport options.

Recycling initiatives

Priority: Continued delivery of recycling initiatives, including a food waste reduction and recycling campaign, to increase recycling and energy recovery rates in Buckinghamshire.

Outcome: To reduce our county’s environmental impact by promoting sustainability and reducing waste.

Review our Waste Strategy

Priority: Begin a waste strategy review to determine the best waste service delivery model which is future proof.

Outcome: To reduce our county’s environmental impact by promoting sustainability and reducing waste.

Zero-tolerance towards fly-tipping

Priority: Continuing our ‘zero tolerance’ policy towards fly-tipping.

Outcome: Proactively educating and safeguarding the public around their duty of care through partnership campaign work, alongside the robust enforcement of fly-tipping in Buckinghamshire to protect our special environment.

Investing in waste collection vehicles

Priority: Investing in waste collection vehicles across the county, and trialling new electric, or alternative fuel vehicles where possible.

Outcome: Investing to ensure high quality standards of service are maintained, and to further reduce our environmental impact and improve air quality and people's health.

Biodiversity net gain scheme

Priority: Establish a fully functioning biodiversity net gain scheme.
