Request building control records for a property

Request a search of building control records for a property, including completion certificates and decision notices.

You can use this service if:

• you're selling a property or have recently moved in and need evidence of building regulations approval
• you've lost a completion certificate and need a replacement copy

The service costs £40. This fee is non-refundable.

We can search building control records from the last 15 years for:

• completion certificates
• decision notices

If we hold the information, we can provide up to 6 documents electronically.

We can only send documents to the property owner or their solicitor.

We cannot confirm whether documents are available before payment is made. If we do not find any documents, the fee is non-refundable.

1. Complete the building control history check form.
2. Make the non-refundable payment.
3. If the documents are available, our Technical Support team will send you copies.

If you have had work carried out or have moved into a property and do not have a certificate for work that's been done, you can apply for a regularisation certificate.
