We will be texting or emailing residents who are late paying their Council Tax. This communication is genuine but if you’d like reassurance you can log in to check your online account or pay online. There is no need to contact us if you've already paid.

Apply for money off Council Tax if you care for someone you live with

As a carer you will be disregarded for the purposes of Council Tax if all of the following apply to the person you care for:

  • they are not your spouse, partner or child under the age of 18
  • they live in the same property as you
  • they receive at least 35 hours a week of care on average
  • they're in receipt of a qualifying benefit

Qualifying benefits

Qualifying benefits include:

  • Attendance Allowance
  • Disability Living Allowance (highest or middle rate of the care component only)
  • Personal Independence Payment (standard or enhanced rate of the daily living component)
  • an increase in the rate of their disablement pension
  • an increase in Constant Attendance Allowance

Evidence required

You will need to provide proof of the qualifying benefit.
