We will be texting or emailing residents who are late paying their Council Tax. This communication is genuine but if you’d like reassurance you can log in to check your online account or pay online. There is no need to contact us if you've already paid.

Apply for a Council Tax exemption for student halls of residence

Student halls of residence are exempt from Council Tax if the accommodation is one of the following:

  • owned or managed by an educational or charitable organisation
  • subject to an agreement which enables an educational establishment to nominate the majority of student residents

The accommodation must be provided mainly for students.

Evidence required

You will need to submit written confirmation from the establishment that owns or manages the halls of residence to show that the criteria have been met.
