Prepare for and respond to adverse weather and utility problems

Flooding

The Environment Agency provides a flood warning service for most main rivers, estuaries, and coasts. But not for most ordinary watercourses. Rivers and streams rising due to heavy rainfall can cause difficulties when there is no time to issue warnings.

The Environment Agency cannot provide a flood warning service for local flooding from:

  • sewers
  • road drainage
  • dam bursts
  • blockages
