Offer to share your home with a refugee

The government's Homes for Ukraine scheme was launched on Monday 14 March 2022 and is aimed at helping to offer Ukrainian refugees accommodation in the United Kingdom.

By offering to "sponsor" a refugee, you will be offering accommodation to an individual or household from Ukraine.

Sponsors should provide accommodation for as long as they are able, but we have a minimum expectation of 6 months.

People arriving under this scheme will be able to:

• live and work in the UK for up to three years
• access healthcare, benefits, employment support, education, and English language tuition

Since April 2022, over 700 early sponsors have helped Ukrainian guests settle into Buckinghamshire’s communities by providing support with:

• finding school places for children
• setting up bank accounts and benefit claims
• settling into their communities and meeting other sponsors and Ukraine guests
• identifying work opportunities

Many of our early sponsorship agreements have now reached or are reaching the minimum sponsor expectation of 6-months, and some hosts have notified us that they would like to bring their sponsorship agreement to an end.

There are different housing options available to our guests at this stage, including:

• private rental
• application for social housing
• the opportunity to rematch with a replacement sponsor for another 6 months.

Many guests would like to live independently however other guests would like to be rematched to a replacement sponsor and extend their sponsorship period for another 6 months.

To enable us to offer this option to our guests we must have fully-checked and ready rematching sponsors available.
