After you submit your application

We may grant or refuse an application for a permit having taken into account relevant guidance issued by the Gambling Commission.

If your permit is granted

In granting a permit, we may vary the number or category of machines permitted if considered necessary.

Holders of permits must comply with the Gambling Commission’s Gambling Commission's code of practice.

The permit must be kept on the premises so it can be produced for inspection by a police, enforcement or council officer.

The permit remains in effect for as long as the holder continues to also hold the alcohol premises licence, unless the holder wishes to surrender the permit.

We may cancel a permit in specified circumstances where there are concerns. The permit may also be cancelled if the holder fails to pay the annual fee (£50).

If we refuse your application

If we intend to refuse an application, we'll speak to you first before formally refusing the application.

You can then make a formal challenge, or representation, before a final decision is made.

If we still refuse your application, you can appeal the decision.

Notifications

We have no discretion to refuse notifications, these are automatically allowed providing the notification is made by the current premises licence holder and the correct fee is paid.

However, the automatic entitlement can be removed at a later date if we have concerns.

If we are considering removing your automatic entitlement, you'll have 21 days to make representation before a final decision is made.

Appealing a decision

If you:

  • are refused a permit
  • have your permit varied
  • have your permit cancelled
  • have an automatic entitlement removed
