There are two vacancies in the Stokenchurch ward of Stokenchurch Parish Council. There will be an election on Thursday 29 January 2026 if more candidates stand than there are vacancies.

Standing as a candidate for this By Election
To stand for election, candidates must complete valid nomination papers and submit these to the Deputy Returning officer no later than 4pm on 2 January 2026. You can find full details for submitting nominations further down the page.
You should check your eligibility to stand for election first.
Guidance for candidates is available on the Electoral Commission website.
You as a candidate are responsible for making sure you're eligible and are not disqualified.
Completing nomination papers
You can download the template nomination papers on the Electoral Commission's website. The papers consist of:
- 1a Nomination paper
- 1b Home address form (part 1 and part 2)
- 2c Candidate's consent to nomination (including the pages of legislation)
You then only need to fill in the following forms in certain circumstances:
- certificate of authorisation, if you plan to use a political party name or description
- request for a party emblem, if you plan to use a political party's emblem
- notification of election agent, if you're nominating yourself for the unitary election

Subscribers for your nomination paper
Your nomination paper must be signed/subscribed by 2 local government electors, that are listed on the 1 December 2025 electoral register. The electors must be registered within the Stokenchurch ward in which you are standing for election.
Electoral Services can provide you with the subscribers’ elector number, if you can confirm their name and address. Or you can request for a copy of the electoral register for the area you are standing election in, by completing the request form and send it to Electoral Services.
How and when to submit nomination papers
You must submit nomination papers between 10am and 4pm on the following dates only:
- Friday 19 December (10am to 4pm)
- Monday 22 December (10am to 4pm)
- Tuesday 23 December (10am to 4pm)
- Monday 29 December (10am to 4pm)
- Tuesday 30 December (10am to 4pm)
- Wednesday 31 December (10am to 4pm)
- Friday 2 January (10am to 4pm)

After you submit nomination papers
After we have received and accepted your nomination papers, we will give you a letter confirming that the nomination is valid and give more information about election arrangements.
