Book a collection of sharps boxes
You can book a collection of sharps boxes containing medical instruments that could cause cuts or puncture wounds from your home, for example:
- needles
- syringes
- lancets used with finger-pricking device
- needle clippers
To book a collection, you must store your items in a clean, locked sharps box. These are available on prescription from your GP or pharmacist.
Where possible, only make a booking when you have multiple boxes ready for collection.
About your collection
You should always:
- put used items into the sharps box immediately and not take them out again
- only fill the bin to the fill line
- store the boxes in a safe place that's out of sight and reach of children and others
Leave your sharps boxes out by 6am on the morning of collection.
Amend or cancel your booking
If you need to cancel or amend your booking, you must do so within 48 hours of the scheduled collection date.

If your sharps are not collected
Our teams have until 6pm to collect your sharps boxes.
If we have not collected by then, you should report a missed clinical waste collection.
