School attendance guidance

Lateness

Schools are required to take an attendance register twice a day. One at the start of the morning session and one at the start of the afternoon session. A child who is not present when the register is taken will be marked absent for that session.

It's been shown that being late to school will:

  • disrupt other pupils in the class
  • increase stress for the child who has missed out
  • achieve poorer outcomes

If your child is frequently late to school, this may result in a penalty fine.
