Apply for consent to work on a listed building

When consent may not be required

Minor repairs and maintenance which use traditional historic materials to match the original work do not normally need consent, such as:

  • small areas of repointing
  • small areas of rendering
  • smaller areas of plasterwork
  • replacing individual lost roof tiles or damaged bricks
  • thatch maintenance
  • in situ window repairs
  • secondary glazing (as long as it doesn't require changes to window frames or shutters, and dividing bars align with any existing window bars)

However, consent may be required where repairs:

  • are extensive or structural
  • involve alteration
  • introduce or change materials
  • affect the building’s character
