Council approves new Transport Strategy for High Wycombe
Following a public consultation, Buckinghamshire Council has now approved and adopted their Transport Strategy and Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan (LCWIP) for High Wycombe.
The High Wycombe Transport Strategy envisions that by 2050, High Wycombe will be among the best connected and most innovative towns in the Thames Valley. All the journeys from start to finish aim to be considered low emission, seamless, and safe for everyone, setting an ambitious goal for the town’s transport system.
To achieve this, the high-level Transport Strategy sets out the key transport schemes required in the next 5, 10, 15 years and beyond. The LCWIP includes more detail on opportunities for new and improved cycling, walking and wheeling infrastructure.
Steven Broadbent, Buckinghamshire Council’s Cabinet Member for Transport, said:
"We wanted to identify a range of transport measures that can support the planned growth in High Wycombe, making traveling more convenient and reliable – no matter the type of transport used. The new Transport Strategy and LCWIP outline how we propose to do this. The plans set out a balanced approach to future transport in High Wycombe and will support applications for Government funding and future investment in sustainable and active transport options.
“The plans have been shaped by extensive local engagement, including an 8-week public consultation in late 2022. This engagement helped us understand the key local travel challenges and opportunities and gauge views on the draft plans.
“Specific proposals identified in the plans will be subject to further development and public consultation as they are taken forward and as funding becomes available.”
