Foster Care Fortnight (15 to 28 May)
Fostering children is one of the most rewarding, challenging, and worthwhile experiences you can have. We understand a support network is key to success, which is why our team puts community at the heart when you Foster with Bucks.
Throughout Foster Care Fortnight and beyond, we’ll be sharing more about our children, our carers, and our community on Facebook (@FosterBucks) and Twitter (@FosterWithBucks).
One thing we’re really excited to share is the introduction of a new way of supporting our foster carers, The Fostering Network’s innovative Mockingbird family model. The evidence-based model nurtures the relationships between children, young people and foster families, supporting them to build a resilient and caring community.
Our first launched in North Buckinghamshire in October 2022, and our second, in the south of the county is launching this month!

Get ready to foster
There are very few barriers to applying to become a foster carer. For example, you can foster if you are married or single, already have children or are from the LGBTQ+ community. You will need to be over 21 with a spare room and patience, empathy and flexibility in your lifestyle to care for a child.
Use our FosteringReady tool to quickly learn more and to create a personalised plan of things you can do to get ready for fostering. We created this tool together with carers and staff to help share practical advice and links to help you feel more ready to take the next step.
Topics include:
- Family and background
- Children and care
- Time and money
- Home and location
- Skills and support
