Supporting skill development and employment for students in Bucks
As part of its ongoing commitment to social value, the Buckinghamshire Highways Alliance is proud to support schools across the county.
Our Buckinghamshire Highways colleagues are encouraged to use their volunteering leave allowance to engage directly with students and educators. Each year, team members take part in a range of impactful activities, including:
- Mock interview sessions to help students in local secondary schools build confidence and prepare for the world of work.
- Apprenticeship talks that offer insights into career pathways within infrastructure and engineering. Last year for example, we volunteered at the Apprenticeships Support and Knowledge (ASK) event at Highcrest Academy.
- Support at Buckinghamshire Skills Hub's Bucks Skills Show and Confident Futures Show, inspiring young people to explore future opportunities and develop essential life skills.
These initiatives not only help students gain valuable experience and guidance but also strengthen the connection between industry and education in Buckinghamshire.

Hear from one of our volunteers about their experience at Holmer Green Senior School in High Wycombe:
“Everyone was very appreciative of our help, and I found the day really interesting! It was great to see students shine in the [mock] interview; coming across extremely well and very confident, taking our feedback on board.”
By investing time and expertise into the next generation, the Alliance continues to deliver meaningful social value and foster a stronger, more resilient community.
