Marlow Bridge - Latest update

Marlow Bridge is an iconic Grade 1 listed structure, built in 1832, spanning the River Thames between Marlow and Bisham. Over time it has suffered from wear and tear, with the last major works completed between 1965 and 1966.
During Summer 2025, Buckinghamshire Council started an extensive programme of structural restoration to Marlow Bridge. These works are important to preserve the structural integrity of the bridge for the future and to ensure it continues to be safe for all users. Progress Update
The demolition of the Marlow Canoe Club building has been successfully completed and the area in and around the northern underside of the bridge secured with Heras fencing.
The council has worked closely with key stakeholders over the past few months to progress the project. This includes working closely with the Environment Agency (EA) to secure the necessary permits to work in and around the River Thames. We anticipate receiving the next permit in the coming weeks.
The council has also been working with Marlow Rowing Club to prepare the southern underside of the bridge for ground investigations, which has involved moving boats closer to the river to allow contractors access.

Two week look-ahead
- We look forward to receiving the approval permit from the EA. This will allow the next stage of enabling works to continue, including ground investigations on both the northern and southern sides of the bridge.
- These enabling works include further technical investigations and assessments which are due to take place over the coming weeks, in advance of the main works.
- We will continue to work closely with all stakeholders, including utility providers as part of progressing the temporary and permanent design works to allow structural works to progress.
Parking
The works do require parking bays to be suspended in and around the site. Parking bays along the High Street (opposite the George & Dragon public house) and Causeway have been suspended to facilitate the works. No vehicles are allowed to park in the area including disabled/blue badge users without dispensation from Parking Services. To help facilitate the construction works and manage access, we will continue to implement additional traffic management restrictions and enforcement to deter parking.
