Scouts score a garden spruce-up!

Buckinghamshire Highways, 05 December 2025 - Cycleways, footways and structures , Innovation & Social Value

Buckinghamshire Highways (an alliance made up of Buckinghamshire Council, Balfour Beatty Living Places and Atkins Réalis) recently supported Castlefield Scout Group in enhancing their outdoor spaces.

As part of its commitment to community enrichment, Buckinghamshire Highways has supported the Castlefield Scout Group (in High Wycombe) with essential repairs and material donations.

Through one of the alliance’s trusted suppliers, O'Hara Bros Surfacing Ltd, the Scout Group received donations of compost and timber. These materials have helped rejuvenate their grounds and outdoor spaces and support future gardening activities.

Essential repairs were also carried out on the knee rail fence at the Scout Community Centre, a space frequently used by children and families, making it safer and more user-friendly.

The work also included:

  • painting the posts and railings with wood preserver to extend their lifespan
  • installing extra support posts to prevent future damage
  • clearing broken railings left at the kerbside

The Scout Group expressed their gratitude for the improvements, saying:

“Thank you again to everyone involved. James (from O’Hara Bros Surfacing Ltd.) was amazing - such a lovely chap to have on your team. He really went the extra mile!”

This project highlights how small acts of support can make a big difference in the lives of local groups - reinforcing Buckinghamshire Highways' commitment to creating lasting social value, across the county, which strengthens communities through collaboration.
