2 become 1 - banding together with Chiltern Rangers!
Residents in High Wycombe may have spotted activity along Cock Lane earlier this year, where a coordinated effort between Buckinghamshire Highways and Chiltern Rangers helped deliver essential maintenance with minimal disruption.
Carrying out essential repairs and tree safety works
On 13 January 2026, we carried out planned routine carriageway repairs along Cock Lane, High Wycombe. The work required a temporary road closure to ensure that crews could operate safely and efficiently.
With the closure already in place, we took the opportunity to join forces with Chiltern Rangers, who were scheduled to complete tree safety works in nearby Gomm Woods and alongside the roadside boundary near the top of Cock Lane by the school.
This joint working approach meant that both sets of essential works could take place at the same time - avoiding the need for future closures and further disruption for residents, businesses, and school traffic.

Keeping our roads and woodland safe
Chiltern Rangers carried out several important tree safety activities, including:
- Crown reduction of overhanging roadside trees - meaning carefully trimming back the top and outer branches of a tree to make the tree smaller and lighter.
- Removal of ash trees affected by Ash Dieback - a highly destructive fungal disease affecting ash trees. It causes leaf loss and canopy decline and in some cases causes the trees to die.
- General maintenance to improve long‑term tree health and reduce risk to road users
These works help ensure tree stability, reduce the likelihood of fallen branches, and maintain clear sight lines on the road.
Meanwhile, our own teams completed necessary carriageway repairs, prolonging the life of the road surface and improving safety for motorists.

A coordinated approach to reduce disruption and benefit local residents
The collaboration between us and Chiltern Rangers ensured that:
- essential works were completed efficiently
- disruption to the public was minimised
- no additional closures will be needed for the tree works
- road users and pedestrians are kept safe into the future
Thank you to local residents and road users for their patience while these important improvements were carried out.
