Trade union facility time

Information relating to trade unions within the council under the Local government transparency code 2015.

We are required to update this information on an annual basis.

The below data is from March 2025.

1. Trade union facilities time for services

Buckinghamshire Council recognises:

  • UNISON
  • AEP
  • GMB

There were 13 trade union representatives during this period, including:

  • 11 UNISON representatives
  • 1 AEP representative
  • 1 GMB representative

Two representatives (UNISON) spend more than 50% of their time on trade union duties.

Spending on trade union facility time for services

There are two people who spend at least 50% of their time on Union duties. Based on actual spend on TU facilities time (which includes pension and NI costs) this is a total of £71,292.84 per annum

2. Trade union facilities time for education

Regarding Union facilities relating to Teachers, Buckinghamshire Council recognises:

  • NEU
  • NASUWT
  • ASCL
  • NAHT

There are a total of 4 County Secretaries (one for each of the unions) and local representatives across the county.

The representatives from NAHT and NEU are employed by Buckinghamshire Council.

In addition, NASUWT had a local representative employed by the Council (now retired) but continues to undertake her union role.

There is 1 UNISON representative employed by the Council within the Education Sector although other representatives support as needed. None of these Representatives spend more than 50% of their time on trade union duties.

The estimated spend on trade union facilities time is a total of £34,292.04 per annum. This is based on the actual Facility time spent within Maintained Schools and the cost of the UNISON Reps facility time (including pension and NI costs).
