Privacy and Video Interaction Guidance (VIG)
This Privacy Notice explains how the Educational Psychology service at Buckinghamshire Council (the data controller) will use the personal information we collect about you when you participate in the Video Interaction Guidance (VIG) intervention.
Information held about you
We can hold the following information on you:
- your child’s name and date of birth
- your name
- your contact details, including phone number and email address
- contact we have had with you (such as correspondence)
As part of the VIG intervention we will collect and process the following additional information:
- Video and audio recordings of interactions
- Images or ‘stills’ from the video recordings
- Names and roles of participants
- Observational notes and feedback from VIG sessions
Why we need your information
VIG is a strengths-based intervention that uses short video clips of interactions between individuals (e.g. children, parents, staff) to support reflection and development of communication and relationships.
The purpose of processing personal data (including video and audio recordings) is to:
- Facilitate reflective practice and relational development
- Support educational and emotional wellbeing
- Inform personalised support strategies
What is the lawful basis for us to process your information?
The lawful basis for processing the personal information under the Data Protection Act 2018 and UK GDPR is:
- Article 6(1)(a) Your Consent. Participation in VIG is entirely voluntary. You’re able to remove or withdraw your consent at any time. You can do this by contacting Katy Taylor (Senior Educational and Child Psychologist): [email protected] 01296 383443.
- Article 9(2)(a) explicit consent for processing special category data (e.g. video of children).
How we share and process your information
Who will see the data?
- The VIG practitioner delivering the intervention
- Supervisors supporting the practitioner’s professional development (with consent)
- The data subject (e.g. parent, child, staff member)
We will not share your data with any other third parties without your explicit permission.
We will securely hold your information (VIG recordings) and only for as long as necessary to complete the intervention and review process, typically no longer than 2 years.
You may request deletion of your data at any time. Where information is no longer needed it will be confidentially disposed of.
Your rights
You have legal rights over your information. For details of those rights, see our corporate Privacy Policy. Your rights will differ depending on our lawful basis for processing your personal information.
