School crossing patrols

School crossing patrollers are valuable members of the community.

There are currently 60 patrollers in Buckinghamshire who devote their time to helping children safely reach school as well as assisting adults across the road.

Failing to stop

It is an offence under the Road Traffic Act 1984 if you do not stop when asked by a patroller, you can also:

  • be fined up to £1000
  • get 3 penalty points on your licence
  • be disqualified from driving

If your daily journey takes you past a school, especially at the beginning of the school day or the end, allow yourself more time as you may be requested by a patroller to stop.
