Apply to become a school governor

We are looking for passionate and dedicated volunteers who are committed to improving education.

You do not need any qualifications.

School governors are unpaid volunteers who are responsible for overseeing the strategic direction of a school, including:

• policies
• budgets
• staffing

Governors often bring skills from their professional lives to the role. Schools benefit greatly when working with volunteers with experience in:

• finance
• law
• premises management
• human resources

You would need to build relationships, share ideas and learn from others.

You would become an important member of the school community and work closely with the Head Teacher and other senior leaders.

The specific tasks of school governors, as part of the governing board are:

About 10 days a year to:

• attend meetings
• occasionally visit the school
• take relevant training

Being a school governor can help you develop skills including:

• leadership
• communication
• problem-solving
• financial management
• time management
• networking
• decision making
• teamwork

You will also have the opportunity to learn more about education, governance, and the local community.

Being a school governor is rewarding and you can improve the education system, volunteering only a few hours each month.
