Responsibilities of a school governor
School governors are unpaid volunteers who are responsible for overseeing the strategic direction of a school, including:
- policies
- budgets
- staffing
Governors often bring skills from their professional lives to the role. Schools benefit greatly when working with volunteers with experience in:
- finance
- law
- premises management
- human resources
You would need to build relationships, share ideas and learn from others.
You would become an important member of the school community and work closely with the Head Teacher and other senior leaders.

How much time you need to volunteer
About 10 days a year to:
- attend meetings
- occasionally visit the school
- take relevant training
