Report a pothole
You can report a pothole on the road or pavement online.
To help us locate and assess the pothole, include:
- photos, if it's safe to take them
- the pothole's approximate size
- a description of where it is, including nearby landmarks
Before reporting a pothole, check whether it has already been reported on FixMyStreet. If it has, you can follow the existing report for updates.
To submit a new report, you'll need an email address.
After you report a pothole
We'll assess the pothole and prioritise any work needed based on the risk it presents to road users. Higher-risk defects are dealt with more quickly.
The priority given to a pothole depends on factors such as:
- its size and depth
- its location
- the type of road
- the level of risk to road users

How we'll keep you updated
When the issue or defect has been assessed we will update the online report and send you an email.
If the pothole is dangerous
If the pothole presents an immediate danger to road users, report it as soon as possible.
If there is an immediate risk to public safety outside normal working hours, phone 0300 131 6000 and select option 1.
Motorways and trunk roads
If the pothole is on a motorway or trunk road, report it to National Highways.
